My cousin just posted a picture captioned “my first night with my son” and it’s him and a little tiny baby and his friends are all like “aww” and my family is all posting “WHAAAAT?”  Like…. WHERE DID YOU GET A CHILD?

clumsyoctopus:

flower language has always been an intense source of disappointment for me

like, they all mean really generic things like “love” or “forever” or “i’m sorry”

i thought you could combine flowers

like you could just send someone a bouquet and from the combination of hibiscus and posies and tulips they’d understand “the rebel leader is dead, rendezvous at the docks at 8, bring the dog, you will need lighter fluid and  a large tomato”

You have underestimated the power of the language of flowers.  I would recommend using a series of bouquets though instead of a single one.

The rebel leader is dead.

Rendezvous at the docks at 8

Bring the dog

You will need lighter fluid and a large tomato

I have 4 committee members: my PI, two graduate faculty from my home department (one who was chair of my qualifying committee, one who I’ve pretty much spoken to twice ever), and then Diane.  Diane works for my boss and manages daily functions of the lab, but also runs her own small (2 person) lab that does stem cell research.  She is faculty but not graduate faculty.

And of all the people, she is absolutely THE MOST HELPFUL PERSON.  She is always willing to talk to me about my project, my writing, my proposal.  She’s helpful when I have personal (or rather personnel) issues in the lab.  She replies to my e-mails pretty much instantly with thoughtful and useful feedback.  (My PI replies to e-mails rarely and if he does, they are, in their entirety, two letters: “ok”.)

And look I’m just really really happy about Diane, okay.

Got my first feedback from a committee member about the bits I sent out Friday.  Woo!  Also, she generally thought it was fine and was more interested in a tangential bit of the project (side data I will need to validate the main data).  Good good.

Student health has agreed to refill my birth control prescription even though I don’t qualify right now for student health coverage because I’m not registered for classes yet.  I explained the deal to them (I won’t be registered until my comprehensive is over, in 2 weeks, so I can’t come in yet), BUT I am completely out of packs, and they agreed to refill me with a three month set so I can come in when I can once I get my registration sorted out.

Thank you for actually acting like human beings.  I appreciate it.

Now, listen, all of you. For all we know that’s a brand new life form over there. And if it’s come inside to discover us, than what’s it found? This little bunch of humans, what d’you amount to? A murder? Cos this is where you decide. You decide who you are. Could you actually murder her? Any of you? Really? Or are you better than that?

I just don’t want to write anymore, okay?  I mean I have the material, and actually have a good deal of the parts written separately, but I have to string them together and make them English good and no.
